pepper spray question
For various reasons my wife isn't ok with carrying a gun, that's ok by me, but she's looking at other forms of personal protection. Namely pepper spray. Are there ones that are better then the others? Is there a preferred brand? Place to buy? I've never looked into pepper spray before.

Re: pepper spray question
Major brand names, like most things. They all use capsaicin. If for some unreasonable reason she wanders into the PRNJ, she is limited to 1/2 ounce, last I knew. Cops can have larger, so apparently PRNJ anticipated pepper spray shootouts and didn't want their gendarmes out sprayed.

I've been sprayed by Sabre Red. ....it sucked...a lot.

Re: pepper spray question
I went with this for the wife and I.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0077...red&th=1&psc=1
They sell training canisters and its easy enough to throw on your key chain, that way you know you will always have it.
The first step for anything in someone's edc is to make it easy enough to carry that they will carry it, and not just buy it and stick it in a drawer or in their glovebox.

Re: pepper spray question
Wasp or hornet spray is better IMO...30' range, and not illegal (as far as I know) any place.
Heck, I'm allergic to bee stings, so I always have a can or two around...dual purpose, and, again, as far as I have researched, no problem in your car or wife's hand bag.
Please do your own research on the legality. I'm fine with what I have read up on, but, I'm not a LEO or lawyer.

Re: pepper spray question
also been sprayed, it sucks.
foaming kind is best.
i carried a sabrered spitfire for a while. no real safety to try and fumble with. just have to be more cautious as to, say, sitting on it when wearing keys on belt.
iirc it fires a cone, very short range.
Am always amused when someone drops a pepper spray (or anything really) into their purse... women seem to have to dig through them to find most items.
where will the spray be when you need it? buried at the bottom.
she should carry a knife on her person, something fixed or assisted opening. There is no way to make it out alive...

Re: pepper spray question
This is what I carry when I cannot carry my pistols. https://www.sabrered.com/pepper-spra...oz-stream-mk-6
The capsacisin content should be 1.33 percent (don't look at the pepper content (5 or 10 percent), look for the capsacisin content. I like the MK-6 model because it's NJ legal (less than 3/4 of an ounce).

Re: pepper spray question
I buy Fox Labs pepper spray. I have never been sprayed with it, and I don't want to be.

Re: pepper spray question
I've been sprayed with this Def Tech spray. http://www.safariland.com/products/l...8.html#start=2 I had a hard time opening my eyes more than a second or two at a time for the first 10 minutes, even after flushing my eyes right away with water. It's nice to have confidence in what you're carrying after you experience it first-hand.
