    Default Dan Wesson Model 15

I just came across a Dan Wesson model 15, with a 6" barrel. The gun seems to be on good condition but I don't have any experience with them. I have been reading how you can swap the barrels, with an included tool and you have to make sure of proper spacing between the barrel and the cylinders. With that said this gun does not come with the aforementioned tool, and I am wondering how difficult it is to acquire the tool or even the barrels or grips. Dealer is asking $200, and considering the condition of the gun I am really tempted to bite as I was looking for a .357 anyway. Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks,
    Rob

Jump on it. I bought an 8 inch 357 a few weeks ago and it is the best revolver I own. I also have Smiths and Rugers so Im not comparing it junk. I dont have the tools either but I took the barrel off for a good cleaning by dremmeling down a 5/8 socket to make the nubs. I bought automotive spacers for like 5 bucks at Sears and I was set. What kind of grip do you want to put on it? They are around. Usually on Ebay.

This is what they look like on the inside. After a good cleaning. Simple and solid.

Heres how it looked when I brought it home. BTW I paid 340 and am glad I bought it

and with the original style grip I got on Ebay

At 200 bucks let me know where its at if you dont buy it.

I would buy it without even thinking twice. You can get the wrench on ebay. I have also seen grips.

buy the gun, its a great deal. there always seems to be the Dan Wesson tools on Ebay, although the prices seem to be going up. i picked up a used D.W. with 4 and 6 inches barrels with the tool, for around $300 and i must say, it has been on hell of a gun.

Picked up the gun tonight, I plan on tearing the gun down fully and giving it a good cleaning and lubrication. Paid less then $200 since I said I wanted to get the barrel tool, he took a few bucks off.

Good job. Im surprised the gun was still available. Keep us posted once you start shooting it. If you look at the barrel nut (holds shroud) youll see that you can improvise and make a tool. Needle nose pliers with the bent tips could work also. I dont think the factory tool is necessary. And any spacers work. 0.06 I believe is what to set the barrel to cylinder gap at. Again congrats and you suck for getting such a good deal.

Thumbs up Re: Dan Wesson Model 15

My first .357 mag was a Dan Wesson M-14-2. After a month I traded it for a M-15-2 with adjustable sights. The M-15 is absolutely the finest .357 I have ever fired. The Dan Wessons have the shortest double-action stroke of any domestic revolver made. The barrel/cylinder gap is optimally set at .003-.004". Any parts store can sell you a feeler gauge for that dimension. There are two different barrel fasteners for them. One has an external multi-notched "nut" with a special wrench you can pick up on line. The newer ones have a two-notched internal nut which uses a device that looks like a doorknob. They can also be found at gunshows or online. I don't think anyone could go wrong with a DW revolver. Regards; Al
