Default New 22A with scope mount

I just purchased a S&W 22A with scope rail. And I would like to mount some
kind of optics to it. I thought about the red dot sight. Never shot anything
with one of these. And as far as scope I was concerned about how a scope
would look at arms length. As you can tell I'm not well versed with optics.
I've only used regular open sights. Thanks for any help.

Personally, I prefer open sights on my target pistol. I have used a red dot on it in the past but it was just ok for me.

I just bought a 22A myself. It is a very accurate little gun. I have red dot but will need another groove milled on the rail to mount it. I am thinking about a holgraphic sight but don't want to spend too much. Hell I only spent $150.00 for the gun.

I just installed a red dot on my 22A. What I did was mark the rail that comes with the red dot. Because I had to get rid of some of the material because the lip on the 22A's rail is not continuous. And I used my roto zip saw. To do that. And that's what I used to get the other grove in there. Took me 15 minutes. Looks good and works great. The 22A's rail is aluminum and so was the red dot bracket. Roto zip cut it like butter.
