NEW BRITAIN TWP. — Police have said a gunshot wound that resulted in the airlifting of a man from the Target World range near the intersection of County Line Road and Route 202 on Wednesday morning was self-inflicted.
Chief Robert Scafidi, of the township police, declined to identify the man, but described him as a 22-year-old white male from Lower Moreland.
According to Scafidi, the man sustained a “severe gunshot wound” to his head. Scafidi added that it appeared that the wound was intentional.
The man, who had shot at Target World previously, had been using a rental 9-mm handgun in the gun range, Scafidi said.
Scafidi said police were dispatched to the scene at about 11 a.m. There were other people in the building at the time, but no one else was firing in the gun range.
Two range officers were on the other side of protective glass, Scafidi said.
Patrol cars from New Britain and Montgomery township police were parked outside Target World, as was an ambulance
from Chalfont Emergency Medical Services.
A PennStar medical evacuation helicopter was in a parking lot on the far side of the neighboring 4309 Business Center building.
Standing in the parking lot near Target World, Troy Bader, from Philadelphia, said he had just pulled up to buy a birthday present at about 11:10 a.m.

“I saw the people running out,” he said. Bader also saw police going into the building.
A group of emergency responders hauled a stretcher into Target World through a first-floor fire exit.
At about 11:25 a.m., the stretcher was wheeled outside, bearing a man wrapped in sheets, with just his face showing. Emergency workers held a white sheet up in the air, above the stretcher, which was then taken behind the neighboring building, toward the helicopter.
It was about 11:32 a.m. when the helicopter took off.
Scafidi said the man was being taken to Temple University Hospital.
Target World has had a very low rate of accidental shootings over the years, Scafidi said.
Additional information about the man’s condition was not available Wednesday evening.

Re: Target World shooting
I shoot at two places Target World (near my work) and FCO (near my home).
I don't believe the guy is dead.
This makes me think that it was an accident and not a suicide attempt.
For these reasons:
Why pick a 9mm and not a .45 or larger (They don't always have a .50 but they always have a .45) ?
How do you shot yourself in the head with a 9mm and live for even a few minutes let alone about an hour? It's possible but not probable.
My guess is classic I don't know how to shoot a gun mistake.
Probably his first time shooting..
Probably didn't know the trigger pull or had some sort of malfunction/lack of knowledge of the gun.
Probably did the ole' look down the barrel, why isn't this thing working, boom.
The wound will tell it all.
How far away from his head?
Did it graze his skull or enter his eye?
Too much is unknown and I wouldn't presume it a suicide attempt.
More than likely Target world would prefer it ruled a suicide attempt to keep them from having any real or minimizing liability...

Re: Target World shooting
If a man goes into Target World they test his skill and knowlege. "Do you know what you are doing". "Yes". "OK, heres the gun and there is the range."
They only require woman to take classes and be tested.
They only have problems with men.

Re: Target World shooting
I believe there are are some ranges that won't allow you rent a firearm and/or shoot if you are by yourself. I guess this is why.

Re: Target World shooting
This is my local range I shoot at(15 mins away). I also go to French Creek Outfitters but I shoot 80% of the time at Target world. I like when the range is empty, you don't have to worry about a possible shootout with people like that. I mean if someone is going to off himself, he might try to take you with him who knows.
