Default State Parks are on the ball

This past weekend the family camped at Blue Knob State Park. I was CCing as per the new law. The better half was reviewing the map and reading about all the info on the park on the back of the map.

She looks at me and says, "Listen to what they have written in here... Firearms shall be kept in the owner's car, trailor or leased campsite. The only exception is that law enforcement officers and individuals with a valid Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms may carry said firearm concelaed on their person while they are within the park."

I was amazed that it was already in the brochure that is given to every camper that shows up, and is avaiable to everyone that wants a map. I was amazed that they actually put it in the brochure at all. It was nice to see. Kuddles to Blue Knob for a job well done and getting the correct info out to those that need to know.

Before you go on about different state permits. If your carrying in PA on a different State Permit. You already know your covered under the PA Law.

I'm surprised they would go out of thier way to print it as they probably weren't required to do so. Maybe they are trying to encourge it... sorta inviting a free "security" team.

That is what surprised me too. That they would go so far as to put it in print. You would think that a "Government Run Organization" wouldn't be putting it in print for all to read, even if it was legal.

That is what impressed me the most. And you know they weren't required to do this. So, for them to do it and let everyone know it was OK to carry really impressed.

I have learned to appreciate the little things in life that are "pro gun". There are so many Anti-Gun statements. It's nice to see this for a change.

And yes, the title of this thread is "STATE PARKS" not the National Parks.

The regulation regarding firearms in state parks is still binding, however, concealed carry is now preempted by title 18 § 6109. That said, open carry is still assumed to be forbidden in state parks--and DNCR is well aware of this.

If DNCR were to remove their firearms prohibition, then open carry would be legal in state parks as well.

Personally, I think it would do them well to revise their rule to be in line with state law.

Well, it was probably time to print up new borchures anyway, and had they not included the new carry rules they would have received countless complaints from people like us.
