Re: Mitchell's Mausers: Newsletter, March 12th 2009
does anyone know if these rifle have matching #'s. i've always wanted a k98k but the closest i got was an m48. considering the current environment i don't think $400 with all those accessories is a bad deal. especially if #'s match. i have no experience with mitchells mausers but all of the prices i have seen them go for seemed to be on the very high side.any info would be appreciated.

I looked at a Mitchell's Mauser at a gun show. It's like they stripped all the history from the rifle. It just seems wrong.

The ad says they are "factory overhauled." I really don't know. I just meant that all clean and perfect looking. . . I don't know, it just kind of defeats the point of buying an old military rifle. Maybe it's just me being a kook.

The "matching" numbers are forced; read etched with an engraving pencil. They are a big rip-off.

MASSIVE rip off. They take rich-with-history milsurps, grind the numbers and then match them...then reblue the entire rifle. The stocks are sanded down and refinished - then they add a $40 bayonet and $20 worth of accessories and market it as being worth more than an all-original rifle in the same condition.
My favorite part is how they market Yugo M48's as "K98/M48's" (at least they're pretty similar) and 24/47's as "K98/24/47's" (which is not even close! At least they are both Mauser actions...)
M48 bayonet: $150. At Numrich: $42
I could go on and on...
