Re: computerized PICS checks yes or no
The last rifle I purchased the shop had a computer to do the check. First time I had to do one, first it x'd out of what I filled out half way through so I had to do it again, but then it took 45 minutes to process it, I was the only person in the shop so and it was a Saturday night they said I was the 3rd one that day that it took that long. I'm not a fan, plus who knows how good they're firewall and whathave you is.

Re: computerized PICS checks yes or no
From what I am reading it was fast.
Again, my issues is who has access to that digital data? Who will take the fall if it is compromised and where will the files be going?
Things happen then go to court. I don't want them to happen in the first place.
Like we published all this info. Now go to court but the info is out there.

The moment you put pen to paper you might as well assume the world knows about you.

Re: computerized PICS checks yes or no
It's a good thing.
Phone lines are a finite resource (we can build more, but there are only so many FFL's and Sheriffs who can call in at one time, no matter how many you set up.)
Web access is effectively infinite. You could probably have every FFL in PA log in at once, with nobody getting a busy signal.
The automated system was computerized already, and the human operator was inputting the data anyway. So, typing it in is no different than voice recognition that ends up being digitized.
As for data security, that's a real issue, whether it's Target losing millions of credit card files, or Obamacare having security worse than your Grandma's Facebook user password. Seems like every govt agency and private corporation lets random employees walk around with the personal data of millions of citizens on unencrypted laptops that get left in taxis or motel rooms. That counts as "careless" in my book; not just the part about leaving them in places, but the decision to let employees carry that data with them. I think it should be secured in main frames, and only as much as is necessary for the interests of the citizens.Attorney Phil Kline, AKA gunlawyer001@gmail.com

Re: computerized PICS checks yes or no
It seems pretty cool other than possibly being illegal.

Re: computerized PICS checks yes or no
I was told at a shop this weekend that now that the computer system is being rolled out they are waiting on something that will allow you to just purchase with a LTCF. Hope that goes through.

Sure. they were logging the data anyway. Don't worry it's not a gun registry.
Server vs human operator.
