Default Red December Kalishnikov event, Dec. 30 , LanghorneRodandGunClub.org $15

Come join us for the annual Kalashnikov match that we're affectionately calling "RED DECEMBER". Cost is $15 for non-members, and $10 for members.

"The capitalist cannot operate his rifle with heavy winter gloves." -- Nikita Kruschev

The course of fire will be interesting and practical, and include both paper and reactive targets at ranges from 25 to 200 yards. If you don't have a Kalashnikov, there will probably be a couple extra rifles you can try. If they're just not your thing, please come out anyway. You are welcome to shoot the match with a capitalist rifle, but we'll only record scores of the Kalashnikov variants.

Same rules and equipment needs apply. 3-5 magazines, 150 rounds, and protective gear.

Although we'll have some period decorations from the soviet era to lend flavor to the match, (re-enactors are welcome) the American flag will still fly highest to remind us that it's rifle design rather than regime we celebrate. We are endeavoring to provide a tasty ethnic lunch as well as a way of saying "thanks" to everyone who has supported us in getting the practical rifle matches off the ground, and turning it into one of the most supported activities at the club.

REMEMBER!!!! Starting in 2008, the Practical Rifle shoot is moving to the last Saturday of the month, starting at 10am.

The club is a "blue collar" type group, and many members work Mon-Sat. So the majority of the club events are scheduled on Sunday, historically.

Next year, this program, practical rifle, will move to the last Saturdayof the month, and the defensive pistol "Only Hits Count" action pistol /idpa like event will remain on the first Saturday of each month.

So you go a shot at it, if you can't /don't/ won't do "Sunday"

    Food Update!

I am pleased to report that we will be dining on real Russian food thanks to Commissar Freddy and one of our attendees who also happens to work in an authentic Russian resturant. Can this event get any better?

Well perhaps if Comrade Kruschev would return from his extended tour of Siberia and pay us a visit.... []

Fargi will likely chime in after the holiday...

His post at the top of this page states 150 rounds and five mags, protective gear (knee pads, eyes, ears) and a sacrificial tee shirt.

As an example, the last Practical Rifle event went something like this

At 5-7 yards, load one magazine with 10 rounds, and on a signal fire a double tap against the target covered with the tee shirt. Repeat five times.

A secodn evolution load two mags, fire the first, (5-10 rounds) swap mags and repeat.

Move to another line...fire 10 rounds prone at 100 yards, then 10 at 200 yards.

Load three mags with 10 rounds. From behind a barricade, perform a roll over prone shot at a pair of targets at about 25 yards. Move to the "off side" sitting kneeling and repeat. Unload, show clear, move to the placement of the 25 yard targets to barricade 2, load and fire at two targets at about 75 yards, unload, show clear, and move to the 100 yard berm (75 yards away) and go "foxhole prone" to engage and neutralize two more targets.

He also puts in some steel targets, a tobyknocker (about 4" x 6" dangly plastic thing) sometimes a reactive (hit the A zone and it drops) etc.

Expect to do something standing, sitting/kneeling and prone. Expect to be required to shoot from the "wrong" shoulder.

And usually, at least one non shooting event.

Hope you come out and enjoy!

    Good summary Pacer!

We will shoot from 15 yards to 200 yards. Most of the the evolutions will be from 100 yards in. We will have reactive targets and double tap drills. What we will not have is shooting off the bench! This event is designed to sharpen or expose your practical shooting skills.

Plus....we will have some great Russian chow!

Bring at least 150 rounds, three magazines, and an expendable tee-shirt.

    See you on the 30th!

    Gary
