    Default How do you?

How do you keep your bolt faces clean? On my CZ-75B the little nooks in the corners of the bolt face I find almost impossible to get at. My Buckmark and several rifles have spots of what appears to be caked on carbon that is frustrating. How do you guys keep your bolt faces looking new? Or is that impossible?

A lot of better gun cleaning kits have picks for that purpose, but I sometimes use a set of those little precision screwdrivers. Just have to be careful not to use to much pressure when picking and scrapping.

I take a paper towel and put it over the bolt face, and then use a nylon brush to push it in the tight spots.

I use those bronze bristled toothbrush type tools. Bronze is not going to scratch or in any way harm the steel of a breech face. If you're concerned, use the plastic ones.

I use a stiff toothbrush and Hoppes bore cleaner and I've never had any problems.

I use an old Dora the Explorer electric toothbrush that my daughter dropped in the toilet. Mom tried to throw it away, but I had the cleaning idea and stopped her. The little rotating head is just about the same size as the bolt face on my main hunting rifle. I use plastic picks to get around the extractor on some others.
