    Default AR Pistols

Heya, I have a decent tax return check coming, and looking into purchasing a AR pistol. Does anyone know if they are a class 3 item, or are they classified as a pistol. Before I make the purchase, I want to know the kind of hastle I will be going through. Any help would be appreciated.

I was under the impression that they are "pistols" not "short barreled rifles" so just like buying any other pistol

that being said, take it with a grain of salt since I've never purchased one

AR Pistols are not classified as NFA items, primarily because they have no stock. If they were to have a stock, then they would fall under the NFA's purview as a Short-Barreled Rifle (SBR).

Thanks for the replies, I was erroring on the side of caution, but I found one I am interested in, has a lot of custom work done on it, and kinda have my heart set on it.

As long as it doesn't have a shoulder stock or a vertical foregrip, it's not an NFA item.

Short barrel and vertical foregrip = AOW
Short barrel and shoulder stock = SBR

Ah the guy put a rail on the front and has a foregrip on it that is removable, I can pretty much bet that is a nono. He probably doesn't know he is breaking the law.

I was just about to post about the PLR-16, you beat me to it Drak

The nice thing about PLR-16 over an AR pistol is that it doesn't have a recoil spring sticking out of the back.

Iv shot a ar pistol before, and without a stock, after a few round its gets sorta uncomfy.

If it's attached to it, that's illegal. Have him remove it before you take possession of it. It doesn't make much sense that it's illegal, but that's how the law is written.
