Re: AR47 Build on GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII Lower
Why are you set on a mid-length gas system?
Grab an adj gas block and play with the buffers if you want it softer recoil.

Re: AR47 Build on GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII Lower
Because the internet taught me that mid length is betterer. That's all.
And honestly, I don't want to dick around with gas block adjustments and buffer experiments unless I have to.
I'm not a complete pussy - recoil isn't a big concern.
I will say that I was considering an adjustable gas block just so I wouldn't have to change out a non adjustable one if I had problems, but I suppose I'd have to dick around with it right off the bat to make sure it was set right.
The majority of the barrels I've run across have all been mid length.
That CBC barrel (now that I look at it again) doesn't even say WHAT gas length it is. Unreal.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: AR47 Build on GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII Lower
If it doesn't say, assume it's carbine. Especially on a 16" stick.
Adjustments are stupid easy.
Adjust until closed.
Fire, did it cycle?
Adjust, rinse and repeat until it cycles completely.
Gas is set. Remember your clicks so you can clean or break the carbon free from time to time.
But if the barrels you have found are mids, then there you. I must have mis-read that you couldnt find them.HGW, llc ~ Title 1 & NFA sales/manufacturing ~ Transfers - Title 1 $20 - NFA $50

Re: AR47 Build on GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII Lower
I doubt it will be done by April. I can afford the barrel now and MAYBE an upper, but The BCG will be $100 and the handguard will be another $100 minimum - unless I can find a used one.
Plus sights, charging handle, and mags.
That's the beauty of the AR15 - yo can build as you go - at whatever pace your wallet allows.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: AR47 Build on GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII Lower
No reply today from PSA regarding barrel profiles. Not that I really expected one.
I'm certain that Primary Arms would have responded promptly.
That's the biggest difference between the two - that and the better selection at PA.
I found the upper I want to use.
Aero Precision slick side upper with dust cover only - no forward assist. ($66 shipped)
I used Anderson Sport uppers with no forward assist and NO dust cover on two other guns because they were only $40 and I couldn't find the above style anywhere for under $100 at the time. Having no dust cover isn't a big deal, but I'd prefer to have the option of closing it up to keep crap out.
That blank space where the forward assist should be would be a good place to have "7.62x39" laser engraved, or stenciled on.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: AR47 Build on GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII Lower
But then I'd have to remove the dust cover that came with the upper.
I knew about those and you know damned well that my cheap ass isn't going to pay to have it laser engraved. LOL!
(unless I found a place to do it for under $40)
I bookmarked that link. I've seen the labeled covers, but don't recall any that had BOTH SIDES engraved. THAT makes a lot of sense.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: AR47 Build on GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII Lower
Engraving the upper is a bad idea lol
If you ever swap calibers...now you have a laser engraved upper.
Dust cover is a good idea, or even cheaper, paint marker.HGW, llc ~ Title 1 & NFA sales/manufacturing ~ Transfers - Title 1 $20 - NFA $50

Re: AR47 Build on GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII Lower
The thought crossed my mind.
All sorts of thoughts run through my mind. LOL!
Has anyone seen a thread of mine about building a gun that didn't wander all over the friggin' place before I settle on a plan?
It's sort of a brainstorming thing - I throw stuff out, get some feedback, and chalk up the idea as good or bad.
Next topic: Muzzle devices!
If you thought I was indecisive about the other stuff, this is gonna be FUN!
Aside from the PWS CQB comp that I researched for my pistol, I've always just gone with the birdcage flash hider that came on my guns.
Now that I am starting from scratch, I think I'll see what's what and maybe get something different. Maybe.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
