Default Anyone help out a college grad with a summer job?

Well we are at our wits end with my son. The poor kid graduates college Cum Laude and starts graduate school in the fall but in the mean time all he wants is something to do and make a few bucks. We have all spent weeks looking through papers, online jobs sites, you freaking name it and we can't find a damn thing.

He even got up at 4am this morning, drove to Taylor for a UPS job interview, only to find out they aren't hiring until mid August.

So can people in the Monroe / Lackawanna, hell even the valley area keep there ears and eyes peeled for me?

He has a bachelors in computer science, network security. He also had experience over one summer working for US Cable In NJ at their network hub.

It doesn't have to be a computer job but the kid is just going out of his mind with boredom and having no freaking money. He is just looking for something to make some bucks from now until the end of August.

He's a smart kid and learns fast so if anyone hears anything from a friend or a business they know give me a shout!

LOL Dalton he's not the only one looking for a job right now... I know quite a few kids who graduated with associates and bachelors in the last year and still havent found a job. I guess their first problem is trying to look for work in the Pocono's...

Let alone someone like me trying to find a part time job to pay for car insurance and gas so I can even make it to class.

Tell him to cruise around looking for construction sites and ask the foreman if they're looking for any laborers. They usually are looking for laborers and it pays decently.

Start taking civil service exams and try to get a job with the state/feds. Might have to take a crap job, but once he gets in he's set. That's my strategy.

hell, I'm a chemist with 10 years experience, and I can't get a job. I worked at UPS last year for 8.75 an hour until I got the job from which I was just laid off.

That's good advice. Actually, forget the civil service exam. Seasonal work at the liquor store is great. As a seasonal employee, around Christmas and Summer, the PA Wines & Spirits Stores hire tons of college kids - and they can skip the civil service bs. They pay about $12/hr too.

Beat me to it Knight. Tell him to cruise the country side and check in at the farms. If he's willing to work he might be able to get a job milking cows feeding animals and throwing haybales. It's hard work but nothing fortifies a good work ethic than farming. Great life experiences too.
It's all fun and games, til someone shoots your bobber!

Yeah I was looking at the Man Power site this morning, thinking the same thing.

As far as the physical labor thing he can do it, within reason. The boy is 6' 6" and 180 pounds (yes he disappears when he turns sideways - takes after me).
