first optic, for 223 kel-tec su-16c
OK, so I am picking this up Monday
https://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/su16c.html
looks like it will be fun, and the rail on top is just begging for a neat optic of some sort, just for fun, shooting out 100 to 200 yards. It would be cool if I could get farther, but I dont know if this rifle will be accurate enough to be any fun at 300. I read 3-4 inches with a good scope rested at 100 on KTOG and this guy ( http://www.gunblast.com/KelTec-SU16.htm ) seems to agree, we will see once I can get it out there.
So, I have never had an optic of any sort before and have no clue what the "4x32" and such means. short explanation there would help.
Would like to stay under $100, but I have no clue about this stuff so if thats not a realistic goal then tell me what is.
hows this?:

Re: first optic, for 223
The 4 in 4x32 means that the scope has a fixed magnification of 4 times. The 32 is the size of the exit lens in mm. The larger the exit lens the more light that can be gathered by the scope.
A 3-9x42 would have a variable magnification of 3-9 times.
I have a AR-15 carbine chambered in the .223 with a NcStar scope. Good scope so far as I put about 250 rounds through my rifle since I bought it. I have the 3-9x42 rubber coated model with the illuminated reticle and ruby coated lenses. Seems to hold the zero with no problems. All in all, I have been very happy with it. The clarity at full magnification is slightly off but not too terribly noticeable. As far as I'm concerned it was a great purchase for the price.

edit: Few other comments.
When I got this in the mail the zero was way off. Definitely bore site the rifle first if you choose either of these scopes. In checking out cheaperthandirt's site they have the same scope but with a mount already on the scope. The reviews say bad things. Stick with the plain old scope and get a nice set of rings.
P.S. The free rings from sportsmanguide that I recieved sucked. I picked up a nice set of Warne rings and have not had any of the problems that the reviews have stated. YMMV.Last edited by sutehk; May 30th, 2008 at 05:35 PM.

Re: first optic, for 223
so, with a fixed magnification would i have to adjust focus at diff ranges?
Is 4x enough to see a paper plate at 200 yards ?

Re: first optic, for 223
With a fixed magnification no, as far as I know, you wouldn't have to change the focus for different ranges.
At 200 yards you should be able to see a paper plate but I don't know how much detail you will be able to distinguish. I usually shoot at the highest magnification I can. At 9x using the P4 sniper reticle an 8in. gong at 200 yards was roughly 10 -15 MOA across using the afforementioned scope that I have.

Re: first optic, for 223
the one I have linked to at CTD seems to have a rail mount.
think that front sight would block my view?
I know some "see around" the front sight, but how can you know if one will?

Re: first optic, for 223
Me personally, I wouldn't take the chance of having the front site interfere. Since it's a flattop you can get a riser mount that should get the scope above the front site.
Take heed to what I said before about the reviews on that mount that is included with the scope. Read the reviews on CTD. Shop around and see what you can get. Just my opinion.

Re: first optic, for 223
I think the mount you refer to is diff than the one on the one I linked to in my OP. Seems to come with a rail mount on the bottom.

Re: first optic, for 223
Shawn, you are right, somewhere along the line I got mixed up. I looked up the price the of the scope that I have on CTD, and the reviews I referred to are the ones for the similar mount on a similar version scope to what I have.
Sorry for the confusion.
