Disposal of old unsafe gun
Looking for advice for the proper and legal way to dispose of an old gun which is in an unsafe condition. It is an old Iver Johnson .22 pistol. The sear is worn to the point that if you push on the cocked hammer with your thumb it will fire. Shame, it used to be a fun gun to shoot.

Re: Disposal of old unsafe gun
Here is how the BATFE says to disable it:
Q: What is an unserviceable firearm?
An unserviceable firearm is defined as one which is incapable of discharging a shot by means of an explosive and which is incapable of being readily restored to a firing condition.
An acceptable method of rendering most firearms unserviceable is to fusion weld the chamber closed and fusion weld the barrel solidly to the frame. Certain unusual firearms require other methods to render the firearms unserviceable.
You could also contact Numrich Arms as they may give you something for it. They then take it apart for individual parts to be resold.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

I am going to the Demo Range in a few months... I would be happy to pack it in C4 and put pieces of it into orbit for you. (if it can't be fixed)
Not sure of the legality of this method, but it would be fun...When you are called a racist, it just means you won an argument with an Obama supporter.

PARTS!!!!
For the love of God, parts!!!
They dont make Iver Johnsons anymore.. Some person like me could use springs and screws for ours.
Also, you can probably get a sear for it to make it safe and functional again.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515, SteveWag
