Behold my free, favorite new toy (back from the dead)
It's a Montgomery Wards Western Field Deluxe model 60, which is actually a re-branded Stevens Model 620 Circa early-1940's.
I got this old shotgun for free from a customer of mine. How awesome is that!?!? It was covered, and I mean COVERED in surface rust, the stock's finish was rough but no cracks or dings at all. The internals and bore were unbelievable clean, but she needed some serious TLC.
This thing sat for nearly two years in my safe. Thought of giving it away or selling it cheap a couple times. Well I got to reading and low and behold it turns out this old jewel is a Browning design and it's a really interesting take-down model. I had no idea. Well about 6 weeks ago I decided to make it a DIY project.
I hope it doesn't hurt anyone's feelings, but I cut the barrel down to 18 1/2". I mean, this thing is a take-down model and it slam fires! I couldn't help myself! Took it down to bare metal and bare wood. Refinished in olive drab and just used a nice finish oil on the stock. I have literally nothing in it. Took some pics after I started the rust removal, and a few now that I am almost done.
Partially stripped:
Part way through refinishing:
Awesome takedown design (gotta love John Moses Browning!):

Lucky Dog
I picked up a couple old shotties in my time that I ended up taking a shine to. Money and value don't count in these things, it's just what you have at the end of the day. And you did better than I ever did

The barrel cutting doesn't bother me, but the green does.
It wouldn't look so "wrong" if the furniture was black, or even the same green, but that nice wood looks bizarre with the flat green paint.
I was really excited when I saw the top photo - looks awesome there.
At least it found a loving home where it could be brought back to life.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Yeah, I wasn't sure about about that one. Once it was done, though... It looks pretty sweet when in my hands. Maybe beauty is truly just in the eye of the beer holder
I should add that in my defense, I was using what I had at my disposal to keep this completely free. It was part of the vision.Last edited by TwistedCopper; December 15th, 2013 at 11:05 PM.

Nice piece!! Yeah, it's a tossup as to who my second favorite guy is: John Moses Browning or John Wayne. Number 1 is Jesus Christ , of course!

I'm loving the partially stripped look too! Just needed an oil rub and some gunpowder smell

Over a decade later, this is my favorite gun. Birdshot, buckshot, or dragon*s breath*. It*s so fun to shoot, especially *slam fire*. Still haven*t but a front bead on it. I just line up the top of the receiver and barrel
