    Default Is this crazy?

I open my safe and point my loaded revolver opposite of whichever direction I plan on sitting, then lock it back up and sit down.

    Am I nuts?

you're worried the little people that live in your safe will set it off?

    YES

Seriously, I don't think its necessary but, if it makes you feel better go for it Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Myself, it doesn't bug me if I have a loaded weapon aimed towards me on my dresser or nightstand, let alone inside a safe. Nobody is around to set it off but me, and if I dont press that trigger, its not going off. Now my dog manages to come in my room, first thing I do is put any loaded weapons out of the dogs reach, even though I never have a round chambered.

The professionals call an irrational fear a phobia.

Is it rational to think that a firearm in a safe could possibly fire? Maybe with a real stretch of the imagination...

Is it rational to think that if the firearm discharged that the bullet could penetrate the safe and cause you harm? Depends on the safe.

Is it rational to always follow the rules of gun safety and ensure that the muzzle does not cover anything you are not willing to destroy? Yes, people are creatures of habit. There is nothing wrong with ensuring that your habit is to ensure that your firearm is not pointed in the direction of things you are not willing to destroy.

I think you will likely be able to manage your way through life without having to get psychological counseling for this.
