Don't bring a flashlight to a gunfight!!
So as some of you may know i work at a nightclub down in station square and last Saturday many of our employees got a real eye opening dose of reality. Let me start by saying that i work the door and as such our screening policy does not include metal detectors or pat downs. Around 1:30 on Saturday some a$$hole decides that instead of leaving the club as requested by the barback in the room, he would rather pull a gun and waive in the his face telling him "i'm not going "f"ing anywhere!!" Now i do not condone how the barback acted however by knocking the guys gun hand away it gave us an opportunity to tackle the guy and his buddy less we stand there watching this idiot waive a gun around like a drunk moron. In that time the barback was able to get to the cops outside and they came in and "forcibly" restrained the guy and cleared out the room.
Now my first complaint is WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU BRING A GUN TO A NIGHTCLUB....... WHERE YOU GOT HAMMERED!!?? AND THEN PULL IT OUT IN A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE BC YOU DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE??!!
Without a doubt had the cops been in the room when he had drawn his firearm this guy would have either been dead or seriously hurt as the cops who work our detail do not mess around when it comes to the safety of hundreds of people.
For the record i believe is was a PF9 but i'm not 100% sure as i did not get a really close look at it.
Anyway, this incident is still stuck in my mind and still amazes me how one person can give an entire genre of people such a bad name. After the incident i couldn't help buy overhearing some of the employees making comments like "no one should ever be allowed to carry" and "why would anyone carry a gun around with them". I've got news for you.... THIS IS WHY!! It just goes to prove that now more than ever anything can happen anywhere and the only control over it is how prepared you are.
The guy did have a LTC however to the best of my knowlage stupidity and assault with a deadly weapon (he did leave nice cut on the barbacks face where the barrel hit his face) is NOT covered by that CCW permit!!
Thoughts? Comments?
The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they will win and the decent people will lose.

Why would anyone go out to where they may encounter armed drunk idiots and not carry?
The guy broke the law and now he'll pay. Also sounds like he doesn't know his limit.

Re: Don't bring a flashlight to a gunfight!!
I never went out to a bar with out my gun. I'm sorry there are far too many A** holes out there. I never had a problem ever but why take chances.
This guy is totally screwed. First he loses his CCW and he will be charge with brandishing a firearm at least. I would say he will also get charged with Drunk and disorderly and endangering the people in that club plus assault on the employee. You can bet they will probably add a few more to those. He will never see another CCW during his life time. I'll bet some time down the road you'll read about this guy carrying with out a license down the road.

Re: Don't bring a flashlight to a gunfight!!
This is unfortunate but all the more reason to carry at all times IMO.
Also, lets not embark on the Alcohol + Guns = Murdered Baby Kittens crusade. This is exactly what you said it was one drunken moron. Plenty of responsible gun owners can carry to bar, have a couple drinks, and then go home. I am all for drinking and carrying. I am against drinking to the point of intoxication and carrying.
No one loses their right to self-defense because their BAC is .01 or even .3, but it is their job to know where their limit is and regulate themselves accordingly. OTOH I probably would have ventilated him if there was a safe backstop. Guns in clubs usually result in a whole lot of wounded innocent bystanders when in the hands of morons and I don't intend to give an agressive drunk the benefit of the doubt. If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen! ~Samuel Adams

For the millionth time, there is no 'brandidhing' law in PA
Drunk and disorderly conduct? sure why not
Assault with a deadly weapon? I'd be very surprised if he wasn't
Assault and battery? - very liekly
Others? - probably
Once he is charged with that THEN they will take away his CCW.

Re: Don't bring a flashlight to a gunfight!!
I always carry when I go to a bar. It's natural for me. Then again I skip the whole 22 year old lets get hammered thing. Not a huge fan of drinking and when I do its the old man kind involving whisky. It is possible to carry a gun through a bar/club or whatever and be responsible. It might be frowned upon, but if there is not a law saying I can't do so, I will continue to do so.

I brought a flashlight to a laser tag game once...the guy who worked there was on the other team checking people and covering his sensors, I blinded him with a C2 Centurion when he came around a corner at me and then shot him repeatedly until he threatened to kick me out...flashlights work in gun fights...

I'm guessing Security on scene was only armed with flashlights? A d-cell maglight to the head can be a very effective weapon.
