Buy a handgun without a thumb safety, or one that has an ambidextrous safety. Being a lefty, I prefer Glocks and Sigs. Stick with modern popular handguns for availability of left handed holsters.

    That's about it.
glocks, keltec, kahr, j-frame or similar, ruger lcp. Something along those lines.
Be prepared to be frustrated finding holsters. You'll likely need to look at righty holster you like and special order a lefty. Sometimes you get lucky, but not often.

There are several handguns that are "Lefty Friendly", but I would agree
that Glock, Sig, Beretta, would fill the requirement for you easily. I would
look for one that the magazine release can be swithched and if it had a
manual decocking/safety on both sides. You might look at a Walther P99
    as well.
A few years back, In the SigArms Quaterly, The academy staff at SigArms
wrote an article: Training the Left-Handed Shooter. (I do not know if you
can still find this: http://www.sigarms.com/v4smp8.htm). However I feel
that an expierenced Firearms Instructor, can show/demonstrate, how to use any pistol efficiently, even though not 100% designed for a "Lefty".

I am going to assume it is beacuse the DA/SA trigger is difficult to master and unneccisary.
