    Same pistol, different caliber.

The G19 with premium +P ammo is effective WRT terminal performance and 9mm is cheaper for practice.

IMHO, you'd be spending money for a marginal increase in terminal performance and increasing your cost of practice sessions.

Yup, unless you are consolidating calibers or some other reason aside from the gun it is probably not worth it.

And carrying 2 less rounds in each magazine.

I have a Glock 19 and a Glock 22. When I was deciding whether to buy a Glock 19 or Glock 23 for CCW, I took into account my experience with my Glock 22. While I prefer .40 S&W to 9x19mm, muzzle rise in my Glock 22 is very noticeable, noticeable enough to affect controllability. I doubted that a LIGHTER gun would have less muzzle rise, so I went with the Glock 19. I've been very happy with my choice. It's superbly accurate at seven yards and 100% reliable with all of the ammunition I've fired through it. And while I prefer a bigger, heavier bullet, I doubt that anybody's going to THANK me for two 147gr. jhps in the chest and one in the head.

The difference in terminal ballistics between 9mm and .40 S&W is only marginal if you are talking about JHP instead of FMJ. The extra recoil however is noticeable. My impression shooting the Glock 23 and Glock 32 (.357 sig)was that they weren't much better in terms of recoil than my Glock 30 in .45acp with a grip extension. Glock 19, on the other hand, is a lot easier to shoot (one reason I bought one of those too). Either stick with 9mm or go all out and get a .45acp.

I carry the 23. I own the 19 for suppressive purposes. I would be 100% comfortable carrying the 19 after it is cleaned and had night sites put on it.
I would save your money and just keep the 19, if you don't already have a good set of night sites get a set and practice, practice, practice!!

Thank You for all the responses.. I got the G19 for IDPA.. Did very well with it.. I also havea XD compact .45.. love it.. I was thinking of the stopping power of the .40 and the .357 VS the 9mm. For defense.. My follow up shoots are flawless with the G19 vs my .45.. That is my main question is the ballistics to the .40 and the .357 vs the 9mm +p or the +p+? And is the recoil more like the .45 or closer to the 9mm? Again i want to thank all the fellow members for the info in advance..
