Warning: MS Xbox 360 is garbage!

Wanted to share this with fellow forum members before they start making up the christmas gift list. I am now the proud owner of a doorstop called an Xbox 360. The unit died from an overheating problem that I just found out is a systemic problem. At this point MS wants to charge me $140 to repair the unit, which died after less that 60 hours of use. It seems that I am not alone.

MS has already acknowledged that units made before 01/01/2006 are faulty and is repairing/replacing them for free (mine was made on 01/12/2006), but the overheating problems exist for all batches of machines. It seems that in many cases if a unit is replaced by MS, the customer just gets a refubished unit that will also be prone to failure.

If you (or Santa) have already purchased one, run back to the store and get an extended waranty that allows an in-store swap. You will probably need it.

The games were pretty good, but no better than ones on a fast PC. Please don't make the same mistake we did, buy a Sony unit or a good PC. Or maybe that target .22 you always wanted.

P.S. There also seems to be a new problem in which the unit will SCRATCH GAME CD's! How can this kind of junk get to market?!

Mine works fine, sorry to hear you got a dud. I suggest that you write some letters and persist, they should replace it if you bug enough people often enough.

True, but on average the Sony units seem to be much more robust.

Now that I have calmed down a bit I think I will go get a used PS2. Good price and I won't be an "early adopter". And plenty of cheap discounted games.
