Black Hills Ammo
I was in the local Gander Mt today killing time on my break and saw that they had a bunch of Black Hills 9mm JHP ammunition. Has anyone ever tried this stuff out? I've been testing out some different self defense ammo (whatever I can find that is) and was thinking about giving them a shot.

Re: Black Hills Ammo
I bought 3 boxes of Black Hills 9 MM at my local Cabela's simply because it was all they had in 9 MM. The general consensus is Black Hills makes good ammunition, but it is high priced. Too high priced to shoot in any great volume. Some of the price is because they do load premium bullets like Sierra Matchkings and the like in several of the rifle loadings. But with that said the 9 MM I bought was plain FMJ Ball and it was $21.00 a box. That is the reason I only bought 3 boxes. $21.00 a box for 9 MM Ball is way too much, shortage or not. Bottom line, good ammo, but high priced. Bill T.

Re: Black Hills Ammo
I just bought a box of .357 Magnum on saturday, at the advice of a respected gun shop owner. He said he uses it as his carry ammo and that he has tested it next to various brands of premium ammo. It is one of the only ones that the crimp actually holds the bullets in place after shooting 5-6 rounds from a .357 revolver. That was good enough to convince me to try a box. By the way, I paid $37 for a box of 50. Not terribly bad, But what do I know.

Re: Black Hills Ammo
Thanks for the input. Gander was selling boxes of 50 JHP for $34. Seems pretty cheap to me considering I've paid $25 for 20 self defense rounds before. That's why I posted.
