New AK
Recently picked this up, haven't shot it yet. Anybody have any experience with this make/model?

Re: New AK
It looks like a nice rifle, congrats. How much DID you pay for it?

Re: New AK
Thanks, I really like it so far. I paid $600 out the door(w/ one extra mag), which was $50 more than they wanted for their WASR-10. I may be wrong, but in the current market I think I may have gotten a decent deal. I have a general AK question as well; This rifle has a slant break flash hider. On the top side of the barrel directly in front of the front site's base there is a button, or maybe more exactly a small rod, that depresses into the base of the site. Is this for flash hider removal? If not, then what is its function? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks- Bob

Re: New AK
wow I was about to say "holy shit you paid 900 bucks for an AK!" but someone apparently did :P
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: New AK
Yea there's no way in hell I'd pay $900!!! I didn't buy that one from gunbroker, just the exact same gun from a shop.
Brian,
Thanks for the info. I guess my question is this: Does the slant break come off, and if so is that button the "catch" for it? At the shop they had the stupid "NJ Legal" version of the gun with low cap mags and no break, so is that what the button is for, simply to remove the break?? Re: New AK
It is a hybrid of sorts. You have a stamped AKM (sheet metal stamped receiver) mated with an AK-47 parts kit that was formerly on a milled receiver.
Older SSR-85C's also a hybrid were made with FEG Hungarian AKM receivers and Polish AK-47 Parts. These were assembled by AUSA (Global Trades) and came with blond steamed Elm furniture. The slant breaks were blind pinned in place and no lugs.
These were top notch and silky smooth.

Re: New AK
Yea that pin is for the compensator. But it is a pain in the A$$ to get it off. And remember rightsy loosy lefty tighty. Its weird on the AK. And is it just my AK or when you cock it back and it locks when you slam the side it disengages putting a bullet in the chamber.
