Default Rifles and Shotguns in Public

A buddy of mine recently made the comment that it is perfectly legal to carry an unconcealed handgun, rifle or shotgun in public. I didn't want to "call him" on it, but I know you can't carry a handgun in public unless it IS concealed AND you have a LTC (or you're a LEO, etc.). But how is the law applied to longarms... can an individual legally parade up and down the public street with a rifle slung over his shoulder?

Not in Philadelphia ("City of the first class").

Second, while it may be technically legal in other cities, you might want to ask if it's worth it to be drawn down on by LE and cuffed on a daily basis.

It is apparently "legal" in the state of PA outside of the major cities to open carry. But in most areas it is frown upon and you will most likely be arrested.

Im not a laywer, so dont quote me on this.

This is perfectly legal anywhere in PA except in Philly where it requires a carry permit and even then you will be harassed and probably arrested.

Please see this thread on open carry in PA
