LTCF question 28, reason for carry?

Printed out the LTCF form. I'm at question# 28, "reason for a license to carry firearms". I did a quick search and couldn't find the answer.
So, can we check as many as applicable? Or just one?
Also, I could find no CCW license form, are they one and the same?
I should have no problem getting one, because, as a CDL holder, with HazMat endorsement, I passed a federal background check through Homeland Security, May '08.

It doesn't really matter what you check on that, HOWEVER, if you are carrying in a reciprocal state and you get stopped with a license that says "Hunting & Fishing" or "Target-Shooting", they (Being unfamiliar with PA law) may choose to jack you up.

The safest thing to check is "Self-Defense"

mark down any reason you want, I chose "protection" or whatever the wording is and there is no ccw just your ltcf

In Washington County I selected "Other".

In the box to explain the other I said "All Lawful Purposes".

On my LTCF it says "Self-Defense".





Self defense is a good reason to have an LTCF.

In my county (Delaware County, PA) I checked everything and the LTCF was marked "self defense". My wife only checked target shooting (all she thought she'd do) and hers came back marked "Target Shooting"

Lildobe brings up a good point though, about reciprocal states not knowing what you check here doesn't matter, it's still good for the other reasons.

Well, if wifey ever has to shoot in self defense, the bad guy was a target, right??? So she's covered

SelF-Defense covers everything. The others are too limiting or specific. That's what I was told.

Yep, same here. The lady at the sheriff's office told me to mark self-defense when I first applied about 7 years ago to be sure that I am covered for everything

Although it really seems like an outdated question on the application. Should be something like "for all legal purposes" and just not have any choices there at all.
