Good idea or not?
I just made a trade offer on a Shrike 5.56 upper totalling in a bout 7K in firearms. Am I nuts... I think it'll go nicely on my AR until I get a registered M16 Lower though. This is if the owner bites...heck he's from PA so he might even be on here.

Re: Good idea or not?
1. go make sure it exists and he has it in hand, if not, skip it, the contractes thru ARES are NOT transferrable to another buyer.
very few shrikes are out there, under 30 in civvie hands for sure, so make sure its actually there."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

Dont get it, What will you do for repaires? ARES is unreliable. When you get your m16 get a HB 20 incher, bipod and some beta mags. Just as fun..

Re: Good idea or not?
Bingo.
If you want it, get it. But those were the reasons I did not. Spraying 200 rounds isn't much different than spraying 100 with a C-Mag. Heck, you'd probably only load it with 100 at a time anyway due to weight and cost to shoot.
I looked into these things and unless I missed something they still seem prototype. Ares has had to make many modifications due to issues with the weapon with only several weapons out there. So, to me, they are unproven. Perhaps you have better info. If Ares doesn't get their act together you might not get parts. If Ares does get their act together, you might see this thing selling for $3k next year instead of the $8K you pay (I have no idea what the final retail is supposed to be). This is a wait and see deal for me.
All that being said, it does have a cool factor, so if you got the money and really want it then don't talk yourself out of it. Life is short and you get one shot.

And I am almost sure this won't work, but:
<embed style="width:400px; height:326px;" id="VideoPlayback" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-8986332119194556984&hl=en" flashvars=""> </embed>
Well, if someone has the ability to make embedded flash work...
stuff linked from here
Yeah, I'd love one. I understand the want. After all, there are only so many of them out there.

Or for a bigger Bang then the Lakeside, but still cheaper than the Shrike. Check out www.BRPguns.com and Look at the "XMG"
it's a German MG-34 in .308 or 8mm and fits on your AR/m16 lower.
Lots of parts out there, if you'll need 'em.
