Default Need feedback on one aspect of my safety plan.

If someone managed to break into your home while you weren't there, what would you advise your wife to do regarding requests to open the safe? This assumes everything else you had in place had failed (self defense, etc.).

My initial thought is to have her tell them she doesn't know the combination however I think that could result in escalating the situation. I've just seen too many situations where compliance backfires on victims.

    What's your opinion?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to offer me some feedback.

Unfortunately there are just too many variables. Since we can't read a criminals mind and all that. Although I normally don't agree with compliance, this isn't a situation where she would be able to runaway if things went south, so I think compliance is the best option. After opening the safe, criminal has to remove things from the safe, which might be distracting enough for her to react in some way.

Hide the safe in a secret room.

I have a safe on display full of scrap copper wire. So hopefully anyone breaking in will spend their time trying to open it to get the wire. Maybe give your wife keys to a safe with no guns.

If the safe has a combo, I would think she wouldn't be able to open it under stress. It takes me a minute and sometimes a few tries even with the numbers in front of me.
