    Default 7.62x54R subsonic loads ???

having a out there thought, the 54r's bore is .311-2''. So in theroy a load with a swc 100 grain bullet and a fast pistol powder could be around 1000fps....... Right? I don't know why, but I'm obsessed with subsonic loads.in my 223rem I use a 55gr. fmj and 3.1grs of clays for around 1000fps. Its just fun to shoot. Plus it keeps the neighbors quiet.

Use caution with pistol powder, paying particular attention to the burn rate. Consider using the correct powder, with a reduced load. It might be necessary to fill the excess remaining space in the cartridge with an inert substance.

Start with 10gr of Unique and a magnum primer. Work downward 0.2gr at a time till you get below 1050fps. My hunch is that you will end up with something around 5 to 8 grains.

You could also use a single 00 buck shot for your projectile.....

I've been playing around with subsonics with the 7.62 x 39 i used a 220 grain round nose with 4.5 grains of red dot. i don't know the exact velocity but it was defenatly subsonic. one thing you should do is drill out your primer flash hole a little bigger and use magnum primers to help light the powder. just don't get that bass mixed up with your regular stuff. the mosin nagant has a 1 in 9.5 twist so a 220 round nose should stableise OK at 1000 fts. good luck and be careful.

A jacketed bullet causes more friction in the bore than all leadbullets. This is why I was going to use them also the SKS has a 20" barrel I think compared to the 31.5" of the mosin. that means the powder has to expand to keep the bullet moving down the barrel. also I wonder what a suppressor would do to accuracy? and how thy are made. we used to make them for 22s with an old small plastic bottle filled with papper towels and short target rounds. would that work???? What a conundrum.......
