Default Ruger SR556 or SW M&P15T?

I have been looking at both of these at one of my local dealers. As far as quality goes, they both seem to be close and I can't really find fault with either one. The Ruger is selling for $1500+ and the S&W for $1300+. I like the idea of the piston system on the Ruger (Adams Arms) and that it comes with three magazines. Is the Ruger worth an extra $200, or are there other differences I should be looking at. I know the guys on this forum are knowledgeable so would appreciate any help you could give me.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Go with the S&W. The Rugers have problems that need worked out first. They rush their design out the door too fast. There are some threads that talk about it more in detail, but I'm sure a quick search on this forum or google will show a ton of info.

Maybe synergy or d90king will pop in with the links. I'm too lazy right now to find them.

There have been multiple threads in which piston vs DI has been discussed. I would take the S&W. You may think the piston would be nice but it has problems, all of them do. If you're serious about a piston save up for a LWRC or LMT. I'm not sold on pistons due to the problems of carrier tilt and the stresses it puts on the upper reciever. M4Carbine.net has a lot of info you can look through. I'd say it's THE place to go to for reliable information on the M16/M4/AR series.

Also, i would not spend $1300+ on a SW either. Not when you can get a colt 6920 for $1175.

    Quite true.

Unless you specifically want a 10" Troy rail (heavy) and Troy folding sights...I wouldn't recommend buy one over a basic Colt, DD or LMT M4 for about the same price.

    Still a quality option, though.
