    Default another question

Why the carry permit and not just a sporting permit ??
What are the advantages of a carry permit, what are the disadvantages of just the sporting permit ??
Sorry for all the questions, but Ive been trying to make some sence of it all and this seems to be a great site to get my answers.
    Thanks

Sporting permit is just as stated only good in conjunction with a "sporting" (in this case Hunting) purpose. Good on the way too and from field/ range and must be accompanied by hunting license if I remember correctly. Where as your regular license to carry is just that, a full fledged with few exclusions where you can't carry. Essentially the License is less restrictive, and more flexibility for you, for a similar fee.

    As mentioned above..

And in addition, the Sportsmans Permit is solely for the purpose of transporting a "firearm" in a vehicle to/from your place of hunt, fish, trap, and dog training. It also allows you to conceal that "firearm" while doing such sporting activities while you also have in possession the appropriate sporting license(fishing, fur-bearing, hunting, dog training licenses).

The LTCF cover ALL of the items above, and also provides legal exemption to carry elsewhere in the state to places that aren't legally/regulatory off-limits. The possession of a LTCF makes the Sportsmans Permit moot. The only advantages the Sportsmans Permit has is that it only costs like $7 and is issued over the counter at the Treasurers office. The LTCF will allow you to carry a firearm for self-defense during archery and muzzleloader seasons, and while you spotlight - a Sportsmans Permit will not.

The LTCF will also allow you to carry in other states that share reciprocity with Pa. It will also allow you to carry during a state of emergency as well as any carry in Philthydelphia.

A sportsman permit does not allow concealed carry.

    that's what I was thinkin.....

In my eyes, there's no reason for a non-prohibited person to get a Sportsman's Permit......just get the LTCF and be done.

For when you are hunting, fishing, trapping or dog training it does. The prohibited offense is concealment on or abouts one's person or carrying in a vehicle.

Under Title 18, Chapter 61, Subsection 6106(c) the purpose of the Sportsmans Permit is to provide exemption to the prohibitions during such sporting activities under 6106(b)(9) and 6106(b)(10). One does not need a Sportsmans Permit or LTCF to openly carry the firearm even while hunting. Since no license is needed to openly carry, what would the purpose of the Sportsmans Permit be but to provide exemptions to the prohibited acts - concealment and vehicle carry.
