    Default 1911

Think I want another 1911 - this time, a commander size. I want to spend $600-$700 ish, and features I want are extended thumb safety and bump out on the grip safety. A couple I have been looking at are

    Magnum Research DE1911C - $679

    and

    American Classic - $479

Anyone own either? Any other thoughts?

I've been thinking of selling my Ruger SR1911 commander if interested. Not a thing wrong with it and less than 200rds fired. Only considering because I have a higher end 1911 Commander that I shoot far more often. PM me if interested the price would be comparable to the Magnum Research 1911 you posted. In the 2nd pic it's the one on the bottom.

My wife picked up her carry 1911, today, at the gun show. It's a Para Expert Commander AL anodized frame and nitride SS slide. We looked at every 1911 at the show and she didn't like any, other than the Kimber Pro Carry II, but it was $969. We found the Para just by chance and she jumped on it. Never saw a girl drool over a pistol, before. Anyway, we got it for $694. Not the best price, but the next lowest price for the same gun was $739. Though Para calls it a commander, it is actually a Comanche size. It's awesome, to say the least. I was very surprised.

She did look at the short barrel and the 4" Rocks, but wasn't having any part of it for carry. Just too heavy.

BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Thanks guys, pm sent to Sig. I was looking at the Ruger, I do like it and at $829 new I was considering spending a little extra $ - but maybe if I can get it for the money I'm looking to spend, looks tempting.
I am looking at the Para LDA Champion II also, like the idea of the lda trigger but they are hard to come by! Will just have to see how much money I come home from the beach with

    Take a look at the STI Spartan IV. The STI guns are better than what your looking at. {IMO}

I was looking at those too Looks like around $725 for a STI. Looks like prices are starting to come down too, seeing new Ruger 1911's for $600 - decisions, decisions!

Spartan, spartan, spartan! The first time i shot mine i was getting pissed as i thought i was missing the 12" bullseye target from 25 yards until i walked up tp look and realized the first 9 rounds ever out of the thing went into a ragged hole under 1.25". To this dayafter at least 2000-2500 rounds it still shoots like a laser and ive got another in 9, a 5" in .45 and a 3" .45 all are basically the same if i do my part. i cannot reccomend the sti enough also lifetime warranty on all of it mags included, no questions asked. its the best buy in 1911s as far as im concerned.

My BIL has the Metro in hard chrome. Good gun for the money. Extended controls and nice finish. I don't have any knowledge of their blued finish though.

I have been eying the Desert Eagle 1911 commander myself. Very nice for the price IMO.

I want a DW VBob but that is way out of budget for me right now. If you can swing it id say go for it.

I like Bull barrel on Magnum Research. But many people don't care for them.

I was in market for a cheap 1911 recently, and did handle American Classic 1911, and was presently shocked that the how well they are put together.

I'd likely go with them(eventho I like the bull barrel), and save myself a $200.
Then use that money, and get a C&S trigger pull kit, and new grip panel

Oh, as far as my cheap 1911 quest, I ended up with RIA 2011
