Billy870m9,
It is illegal to have a loaded long gun in your vehicle in the state of PA at any time.(with or without a LTCF)
This was info given to me by a lawyer.
I hope I remember the next part correctly. The ammo you have for your long gun must be transported in a SEPARATE closed container. (a loaded Mag is not considered this). Essentially if you have a SG in your back seat and loose rounds(and maybe a box of rounds) in the vehicle and not in a SEPARATE closed container, that firearm can be considered as loaded.
I will reasearch this on another site and get back to you if it differs in any way from what I posted.
I am not a lawyer. Sometimes the best thing to do with a multitude of firearms related questions is to pay a lawyer who is very familiar with Pa gun law for an hour of his/her time and get his/her professional advice.
Our problem as uneducated (in Pa firearms statutes) people is we don't know where to look up the information. In many instances, one law will reference another section of law,on and on. Also Pa Game laws play a role in the overall legal issues in some circumstances

ILLEGAL!!! Your LTC does NOT cover shotguns.
PACS §6106.1. Carrying loaded weapons other than firearms.
(a) General rule.—Except as provided in Title 34 (relating to game), no person shall carry a loaded pistol, revolver, shotgun or rifle, other than a firearm as defined in section 6102 (relating to definitions), in any vehicle. The provisions of this section shall not apply to persons excepted from the requirement of a license to carry firearms under section 6106(b)(1), (2), (5) or (6) (relating to firearms not to be carried without a license) nor shall the provisions of this section be construed to permit persons to carry firearms in a vehicle where such conduct is prohibited by section 6106.
(b) Penalty.—A person who violates the provisions of this section commits a summary offense.
A summary offense is punishable by a $300.00 and 90 days in jail.
