    Default S&W Airweight

Does anyone have any experience with or own an S&W Airweight 637 or 638? It's a 5 round .38 that may be a good ankle gun or back-up gun. Please let me know...Mike45

I have a 642 which is the hammerless airweight. I got it as it was the smallest / lightest gun I could put laser grips on. I use it when nothing bigger will work.

    Default S&W AIRWEIGHT

Mark from Ready Aim Fire --- The Smith & Wesson 642 Airweight is a great backup / carry revolver - A little like thunder in the hands because of its size and weight - and with some nasty ammo in the chambers it adds a little lightning to boot for effect - One way to trick this revolver out and to make it more manageable in the hands is to throw on a set of Hogue Mono Grips - turns it ito a different gun that is more enjoyable to shoot and a lot more on target . I bought the S&W 329PD. Sold all but one of my other 44 mags! I LOVE my lite gun. If I was getting a .38 I'd buy the one your eye'in up.

Tell you what, I had a model 37 air weight about 20 years ago. The one thing
that I apparently found out is that they do not like to be practiced with.

I was shooting standard 38 spc. factory ammo one day when I heard this wizzing sound after a shot. Looked at the top strap and noted that it was no longer there, nor was the top of the cylinder that the round was in.

To date, I will never buy anything that has the words air weight in it's description.

I still have the pieces, makes for a great conversation starter. (:

Just glad that I didn't lose a finger or a chunk of my hand because of it.

I have a 638 ultralight. I have not shot it yet so I can not say anything about it works. It is very light though. I bought it with the idea it would be a good pocket gun.

I got a 637 AirWeight -- I hate it, So it sits in the Bedside Drawer as a Backup Home defense gun.

It's uncontrollable, Inaccurate with a 1 5/8" Bbl -- However keep in mind I've always been an Auto Fan so I'm bias. I'd much prefer to carry a Glock 26 or Kel-Tec that comes in approx the same size. But that's not what this thread is about.

If you go for one, be sure to practice Allot. I know everybody will write saying how they can shot the eye out of a fly at 100 yards with their AirWeight (sarcasm) In the real world though it's good to about 7 feet.

The above is just my opinion.
