Look up "Act 120" and you can either put yourself through the academy and apply to depts and hope to get hired.

Or apply to a dept, hope to get hired and hope they put you through the academy if they don't require you to already have it prior to being hired.

Apply to the PA State Police.

Your best bet is to be former military and put yourself thru the academy. It's a tough nut to crack although I'm sure somebody will respond they got hired by the 1st dept they applied to. I would also research the hiring process. If you pass the written test and the physical test, the interview process after that can be a little nerve-racking. You are interviewed by a panel of 3-5 officers/local officials. Watch the newspaper. Depts will post when they are hiring in the employment section.

    Good luck.

It really depends on where to, because the state police require an associates degree, and some police departments require a college degree, but again it all depends on where. For another example philly is desperate for cops, and they'll take about anyone 19 or older who can pass a basic knowledge test.

PSP and any other dept that requires a college degree only do so to cut down on the number of applicants. So lets say......instead of having to deal with 100 applicants and the associated cost, they now have to deal with only 50.

Also, the degree could be in car repair or cake making.
