Armslist buyer rant
Since Armslist has no way of reporting potential buyers, I figure I'd say something here since the buyer claims to be from Kutztown. I saw an ad on Armslist in the SE PA section. The guy wanted to buy a stripped AR lower. I told him I have one (it's now for sale here). After emailing back and forth, we agreed to meet today at Cabela's (an 83 mile one way drive for me). In our emails, he never told me his name, or provided a phone number. His name shows up as "JK" (as in "just kidding") in emails. He asked what kind of car I'd be driving. Told me he'd park on the right side of the lot, but never said what kind of vehicle he had, but he'd look for me. So I parked a little way back on the right side, in section E. Waited for a while, sat in front of the store for a while, then drove slowly around each lot, thinking if the guy was in his car, he'd spot me driving by. I spent 45 minutes there. The guy never showed, even tho it was his day off (as told by him). The whole thing was a scam. I've emailed him twice, once when I got there hoping he had a phone with email, and once when I got home. No answer to either email. A complete waste of time and money. Spamwalker@hotmail.com is the mail he uses if anyone deals with him.
My apologies if this is the wrong forum.Last edited by joelad; December 4th, 2013 at 07:20 PM. Reason: Adding text

Re: Armslist buyer rant
Scammers usually raise some red flags early on. The whole no contact info would've shut down the deal process for me. If it feels like a scam, it's a scam. I've had lots of success with Armslist. You just have to watch out for the crap.

And this is why I always speak to buyers on the phone before driving that far.

Re: Armslist buyer rant
This is the first time I've ever been scammed by gun folks. My wife is always worried when I go to a FTF buy or sell. I tell her the gun folks are usually friendly, and outgoing. We spend more time talking about our shared hobby, than the deal itself. But as I pulled up to the Cabela's lot, I remembered "no phone number". That struck me as a bad omen. I should have just turned around then, but gun folks are trustworthy to a fault at times. I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt. Lesson learned by me.

Re: Armslist buyer rant
some people are just losers with nothing better to do with their time than string sellers along. i've had guys answer a WTS add, ask two dozen questions, ask for multiple pictures and then never hear from them again. fortunately i've never had someone fail to meet me once we agree on a deal and a time to meet. losers and tire kickers are just a part of doing business and after a while you learn to recognize who's for real and who's not.

Happened to me a few times. Including one with an established individual on this forum. Supposed to meet at a certain time, he wasn't even close as we were texting. Also changed the items he was selling at the last second.

i always wonder if it's Mom's Against Guns or whatever setting people up.
Hey, i have a felony but it's ok, i'm from Mexico, i have cash, I'll pay double.
Who says stuff like that?
I wonder sometimes.

Re: Armslist buyer rant
I've had great luck on Armslist and a few other forums. Sadly the only time I was scammed was here by a forum member for a $20 magpouch, go figure.
