Arrow Go Pro Video U.S. Soldier hit by Gun Fire During Firefight (what not to do)

Wow, this shows some "what not to do" in combat.

When I saw it I'm thinking he's got +6k in gear... but zero training.
    what are you shooting at?
    Are you even aiming?
Is that a tactical operator reload? (Gosh that reload was tough to watch!)
You see the bullets hitting all around him!

This isn't paintball, its not over when you say HIT and throw down your gun.

    I'm glad he survived.
Too many video games for these guys.
I'll bet he has plenty of training on sexual harassment, and the integration of homosexuals in the military, etc... Good luck in the next war.

Apparently, the rifle was actually shot out of his hands with a hit to the M203. He didn't drop it. As for why he was yelling "I'm hit," I have no idea. Also, it was filmed with a helmet cam - not a very good way of judging if he was aiming or not based on the sometimes-terrible ways people mount those things.

We have no idea where to aim the mortars. We can't get them to shoot at us. They're just not that stupid. We need to put together some kind of recon by fire.

On a cobble field slope with no cover? Are you crazy?

    Hmm... Good point.

Hey! I know! Let's get Mikey!!!

I've never been in combat. If I were, I'd probably make that guy look like Audie Murphy by comparison. I'd probably shit myself, too.

I'm no soldier, but his position seems to be about #7 on the top ten places I wouldn't want to be during a firefight.

Not having the entire perspective of the terrain where he was firing from, it appears he was making himself a silhouette while he was moving across the hillside. That's just what it appears to me from watching the video but I may be wrong. I can't and won't criticize the young man, I'm just making an observation based on the video perspective just to point out that videos don't always tell the complete story. I'm glad he survived his wounds and I hope the Taliban shooter gets his just deserts at some point.

Afghanistan: There is a 99.9% chance you would never get the drop on the enemy from any position. You are always being watched.

You really don't have a clue.

Go there, do that, then come back and give us your expert opinion.

("tactical operator reload"?? You've been reading SWAT magazine way too much.)

The thing that I find interesting is that he appears to move across this open hillside without getting hit but when he gets to some cover he does.
