Default What about a drug test for Welfare?

Any job I have had in the last 15+ years required a drug screen before I could be hired. With so many able bodied people living off of welfare today why not make anyone getting a check submit to a drug test?

This post has nothing to do with my feelings on privacy issues and drug testing or if it is right or wrong. It is about equality and fairness, most here probably have to submit to a test if their employer asks for one to be allowed to work for a living. Why not have the same requirements for those who choose to not work for a living?

I have another good idea, how about a weekly drug test for politicians. They have to be monitored to ensure that they do the actual pissing. We could also make it mandatory that they have to pass a breathalizer test to vote on any measure brought to the floor. I wonder how much of the bogus shit that they come up with that would kill.

+1 Bill!! That has me thinking again, I wonder if politicians are required to take drug tests like everyone else? Probably not.

People on welfare shouldn't be allowed to vote, either.

If you don't like what I've just said, then there's something wrong with you.

I never followed up on it, but I thought Clinton signed a law limitting welfare to five years?

If he did, it doesn't work. Do you realize how many people stay on it all their lives and pass the legacy on to their kids?

i'm all for a drug test to get welfare. it should go like this:

    1. you go into the welfare office to sign up for welfare.

    2. they give you a drug test.

    3. if you fail the drug test, you don't get welfare. if you pass the drug test, you don't get welfare.

    4. regardless of the outcome of the drug test, the person at the welfare office hands you a shovel and points you to a truck that has a bunch of asphalt in it. ride around in the truck fixing all the damn potholes in the roads. you get paid a reasonable wage to do it.

    5. if you do not work hard at, and do a good job of, fixing the potholes, you get fired.

seems to me like that would be the 2nd best way to handle welfare. the best way would be to just skip numbers 2 and 3 and go straight to number 4.
