Marines Request 50k Rifles from German Manufacturer
The M27 outclassed the M4 made by South Carolina-based FN Manufacturing in terms of reliability and durability.
The U.S. Marine Corps has requested 50,000 additional M27 Infantry Automatic Rifles to replace the M4 carbine rifle currently utilized by its infantry. The new weapon was initially seen as a replacement for a squad weapon – the M249 SAW. However, this larger order indicates that the M27 could now be issued to more individual soldiers. Typically, there would be one SAW for each infantry or fire team consisting of six or fewer soldiers.
The request, which is yet to be approved, would be a significant order for the German-based weapons maker Heckler & Koch. Apparently, the M27 outclassed the M4 made by South Carolina-based FN Manufacturing in terms of reliability and on the number of rounds fired before the most common types of failures occurred.
The M27 uses a heavier, longer barrel than the M4 and is capable of fully automatic fire from 30-round magazines. It includes a bipod, foregrip and the Trijicon Squad Day Optic as standard equipment. It can’t lay down as much suppressive fire as the belt-fed M249, but the Marine Corps believes that the weapon makes up for it with greater accuracy and being easier to carry.

Trump needs to have a little chat with Dunford. This contract should go to a US manufacturer.

Re: Marines Request 50k Rifles from German Manufacturer
Its a waste of taxpayer dollars. All the M4 parts they have and they pick an AR knockoff that most of those parts won't work with, at a much higher cost. A better quality match grade barrel and a free float rail is all the M4 needed. There is no way the HK416 can take over the roll of the M249 nor keep up with it, so they are in a dream world if they think it can.
The brass making the decisions must have an erection for expensive HK stuff late (or are getting a position when they retire or other perks) because the military also gave the semi auto sniper system award to HK.(G28) So that is another proprietary system with proprietary mags which won't work with what they already have. Nothing wrong with the SR25 platform, was quirks at first but they got them taken care of.
HK either can't figure out how to build a plant in the US like most other manufacturers or they just don't have the money too. Maybe a combination of both.Last edited by dkf; September 3rd, 2017 at 10:29 PM.

They've had a plant here for nearly a decade, if not longer. HK45 series guns are made in New Hampshire. The MR series rifles are also assembled in New Hampshire from barrel blanks that are rifled by (I believe) Daniel Defense. HK is also building a huge R&D and manufacturing facility in Georgia where they will eventually consolidate their US operations.

Best of luck! I think my FN TSR .223 was a US made gun. Probably my favorite bolt action rifle to shoot.
It's kind of funny, how a lot of foreign guns are a lot more American than "American" guns... People buying a Springfield XD thinking they have an all American gun, when the HK45 or FN FNX are way more American than the XD can ever pretend to be.
Same goes for US cars... Your American car might be actually made in Mexico. My Japanese car was made in Indiana.

should have just put 18" barrels and m4 stocks on the m16a3 and went back to full auto instead of 3 shot burst.
