This is just a theory: I love pretty wood. I'm 53 so when growing up wood was it that's all. exempts parle So when they started making synthetic, it was OMG but now Older I did a U-turn No matter what kind of (traditional) firearm. GO WOOD....My petpeve is PLEASE DON'T PUT RUBBER ON a 1911. IOHO a 1911 IS Probably overall The World's most loved pistol & beautiful wood is all that should put on them. or Aluminum IMHO.. Please no flames from the one's that use rubber on a 1911 After all it is your fireaam. Just MO...lol But can anyone honestly tell me rubber grips on a 1911 looks better than Rosewood which looks ellegant? Not the way they feel just LOOK? Cause I know that some RG feel Great PS: ...[B]Here's my theory: ( everyone who prefer's rubber grips on a 1911?) (If you need them for work, or competion you are exempt) Are you 35 YO ,give or take a couple years. Please don't flame me it's your pistol

I'm older than you. Many of us have to be concerned with the practical aspects of firearms as tools. As far as I'm concerned the best grips for just about any firearm for defensive shooting is...yes rubber. Not concerned with looks as much as what works.

That is exactly why I have a love/hate relationship with the M16/AR15.

The piece of junk is made out of aluminum and plastic. No walnut stock to lay your cheek on. A barrel so light, your heartbeat will throw your shot off 6 inches at 100 yards.

I'm less than half your age, but I don't think I'll ever buy a long gun that doesn't have a wood stock. I also don't think I'll ever buy a polymer framed pistol. Polymer is just another name for plastic and when I think of plastic I think of cheap. Just my opinion and who knows, maybe one day I'll shoot a polymer pistol and fall in love with it, but as of now there isn't a single one I like. BTW, I agree wood looks a lot better, but I have Hogue rubber grips on my 229.

I'm also 53, and I'm not nearly as concerned with getting wood.

If God didn't intend us to have guns why would he have given us a trigger finger?

I'm older than you, and I became well known for putting bright colored beaded rubber grips on my 1911's. Everybody at the club would just choke, but I loved them.

I'm 42 and i like having wood too - wait, that didn’t sound right .

I do strongly believe that age has a lot to do with it. However, for rifles, I like my plastic AR just as much as a nice wood AK or M1 or sks etc.

For pistols, i grew up (when i was old enough to own my own) with the introduction of the Glocks. I remember seeing the fear of the sheep on the news when they announced a plastic pistol that could get through metal detectors. So, i knew i needed one.

I was never very fond of the 1911. I just thought they were too big, heavy and bulky. And i never got into revolvers either. It just never made sense to carry a 5-6 shot double action revolver when you could carry a g17 / 19 with 15 / 17 rounds of 9mm and a nice trigger.
