Private ranges in Pike county
All,
I am a new resident to Pike country (moved from NJ). Very happy that I can now have 30rd mags with telescoping stocks on my AR15. I was digging through previous posts to look for any private clubs or shooting groups in Pike county, forgive me if this has been answered in the past.
I am interested in shooting paper/steel at 25,50, 100yds or so (5.56, 9mm, .308) but the places offered to the public seems limited. The indoor range that looks like it will open on 739 is neat but the distances to targets is limited. The SGL 183 off route 6 is ok but I keep reading stories about yahoos and you can only set up paper at 100yds. I tried contacting the Matamoras rod and gun club but they haven't even responded. Unfortunately my HOA does not allow me to shoot in my back yard otherwise I would just set up targets there.
Are there any private clubs that offer a filter from the yahoos to be able to shoot recreationally less than an hour from Pike county? I would very much like to meet and shoot with folks who are responsible, have reloading experience and share a general interest in small arms, ballistics.

Welcome to Free America. The SGL 183 range has fewer yahoos on weekdays as reported recently by some of our members. On weekends, go there at your own risk with your head on a swivel, and get there as early as possible.

The private clubs near by are matamoras rod and gun club of course but they are not the most receptive to new people. Too many good ole boys sticking around. If you want in there you'll need to rub some elbows. Go to the events. Shoot the matches. Things like that. It took me almost two years to get in. I avoid public ranges like the plague and really enjoy being able to do whatever I want safely without fear of wearing a slug out.
I don't know of any clubs under 1.5 hours from here
Im guessing you live in Dingmans as well?

Re: Private ranges in Pike county
Thank you all for the greetings. I am all about rubbing elbows I just need a place to start. Idealy I'd like to meet some folks and shoot on their private property or make contact with some type of close knit group. Maybe I'll go and check out that Matamoras rod/gun club to see whats doin.
Yeah I am in the Dingman area, very nice to be here. Unfortunately the NSSF website didn't yield any results that were close by at all.

Check the club calender for events that are open to the public. Action pistol and cowboy are run every month.

Re: Private ranges in Pike county
I feel your pain, I have been looking for I good private place to shoot for years. The best I have been able to find is Factoryville sportsmans club. It's about an hour from where I live in Hawley. They have rifle out to 200 yards, handgun, skeet, trap, and sporting clays. It runs about 150 a year. You need a sponsor but it is pretty easy to find one. They run events a few times a week, so that's probably your best bet. I'm new, so I can't sponsor anyone yet.
