Question Hornady 9mm Luger Die Set

Why does Hornady list their Custom Grade New Dimension Die Set for their LNL press as 9mm Luger-9x21mm? Every reference to the 9mm luger even in the new Hornady 7th ed. reloading manual, lists the 9mm Luger as 9x19mm.
I am going to reload 9mm Luger, but that 9x21mm on the die set is throwing me off.

Some European countries do not allow their citizens to carry guns using the same ammo as the military. Those same countries issue the 9x19. Sooo, some enterprising person invented a 9mm with a 2mm longer case, the 9x21, so they could sell guns to the citizens.

The 9x21 tried to catch on here 15-20 years ago as a result of IPSC shooting. Some competitors were trying to load the 9x19 to Major power factor, with predictable results. IPSC said the 9x19 is NOT a Major power round no matter how you load it, so folks went to the 9x21, which didn't work much better, IMHO. I honestly don't know what IPSC, or whatever the current US iteneration of the organization has to say about major power 9mms, or how popular the 9x21 is (not very, though.)

I never did figure out why folks trying to make the 9mm a Major power round didn't just shoot the .38 Super. Probably because of the higher capacity guns the 9mm was available in.

    Thanks Joe.

Do you know if that Hornady die set is the right one to use for current 9mm 9x19 Luger ammo? Nothing else is listed, so I guess it is... but I had to ask. I guess if you needed to reload the 9x21mm cases, that 9mm luger set would work on them as well as the 9x19mm?

Yep, you can load 9x19 with it. My Lee 9mm dies are the same way. They'll work just fine.

Same principal as die sets for 38 Special/.357 Magnum. They can be adjusted to work for either.
