    Question got a jap rifle from friend for $20

    I got a jap rifle for 20 bucks and not sure if it is a type 99 or type 38... How do you tell the difference???

    The above links should help to answer your questions. The type 99 in 7.7 Jap is a great shooting gun. You can't beat the price!

    I thought they were about the same but different calibers and the 99 being slightly longer. Does yours have strange sights? I shot a friends Arisaka last year. For $ 20 you can't go wrong. Sorry I don't know more about them - somebody here will chime in. A picture may help too.

    BTW, are we allowed even allowed to say "Jap" anymore?
