Default IWB PJ Holster Review (Kahr PM9 w/ CT)

I have been wanting to do a quick review of this holster for a while now but haven't had the time. So here goes.

First a little background. I have had my Kahr PM9 for a little over a year now, and had been carrying it in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. I love the pocket holster, and it works great, but a lot of my jeans pockets are too small to comfortably fit my PM9. So, I have been in the market for an easy on and off IWB holster that accommodates the Crimson Trace laser gaurd for a while now. I originally bought a Crossbreed Supertuck because of all the good reviews I had heard, but after wearing it for a day I absolutely hated it. The Crossbreed holster was almost twice as big as my PM9 and the low cant made it impossible to get a full grip on the gun to draw. So I sent the Crossbreed back and continued my search.

After doing some reading over at the Kahr talk forums, I found out about Paul at PJ Holsters. He makes a very simplistic one piece kydex holster in just about any configuration you could think of. The IWB holster he makes seemed like exactly what I was looking for, and for $40 shipped, I figured I'd give it a shot. I decided to go with a 10 degree cant, but he can make the holster to your exact specifications. I placed my order with him in early January, and received my holster in the mail less than two weeks later.

When I received the holster I was really impressed with the fit and finish. Everything is perfectly symmetrical, and the holster has absolutely no unnecessary material. It covers your gun, and that's it. And that's what I love about it. Thickness wise, it feels like there's no holster there at all. It's like you just stuck your gun in your waistband, and it just magically stays exactly where you put it. That is exactly what I was looking for.

I've been using this holster fairly consistently for the past month and a half, and as far as comfort goes, I don't even notice the gun is there. Like I said before, the holster is no larger than the gun is, so it's essentially like just sticking your gun in your waistband. I have heard of people adding moleskin to the side of the holster that rests against your body for padding, but with a tucked in undershirt on I don't think it's necessary. The holster is comfortable enough for all day wear with no irritation.

I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but the retention on this holster is also perfect. The gun will remain inside the holster when turned upside down and shook lightly, but draws quite fast and smooth when needed. (I say this might not be worth mentioning because with kydex holster you can alter the retention with a hairdryer).

As far as attachment to the belt goes, I went with the belt clip. I opted for this instead of the loops because I like the ability to take the holster on and off in case I have to go into somewhere I'm not legally allowed to carry (i.e. post office). As mentioned above, the holster is made out of one piece of kydex, so the clip is just a molded section of the holster body. It has little hooks on the bottom and stays on the belt extremely well. When I saw pictures of the holster I was a little concerned that the clip might fit loosely, but it holds the gun tight and feels very sturdy.

I guess the last point to mention in an IWB holster review would be concealability. I can't really speak to much to that point since we are talking about a PM9. In this holster, my PM9 disappears under a form fitting T-shirt. I wear the holster at exactly 3 o'clock and can only get the gun to print if I bend down and touch my toe (and even then it doesn't even look like a gun). The cool thing about this holster is that Paul can make the cant angle and ride height to any specification you request, so I'm sure concealability shouldn't be a problem with any gun you get this holster for.

In summary, I am extremely pleased with this holster, and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality, low-profile holster at an affordable price.

    (And yes I know that isn't 3 o'clock )

Nice review. I carry my cm9 in a desantis nemesis but plan on getting a PJ holster very soon. I have not heard one bad thing about them.

Was just wondering... can this holster be worn without a belt and still have retention on the waistband of a pair of jeans?

I also have a PM9 with the laserguard. I do like my CT supertuck, but I want something a little smaller and easier to grab and go with.

This looks perfect. What is the difference between standard and tuckable?

No, without the belt the holster would likely come out with the gun on the draw.

The belt loop on the suckable has a gap between the holster and the loops so that you can tuck your shirt in over the gun. Only the belt loops would be visible with a tucked shirt.

Very helpful review for me. I have a cm9 that I'm adding a laser to. I was looking for a Kydex simple IWB and this is ideal. I appreciate you posting this and I have contacted Paul to make me one.

I ordered my first holster through this company. Can't wait to get it. Great reviews.

I own several of Paul's holsters. Currently, I'm using OWB and IWB versions for my Walther PPS, and have used a PF-9 IWB. I also have one of Paul's magazine holders. I agree, very simple design, very effective. Paul will make it the way you want within the limits of the material. If you want a holster for a gun and he doesn't have a blue gun model, he will buy it. A PA resident, a good product reasonably priced, unconditional satisfaction guarantee.

Thanks for the additional information Gonzo. I think that I will also eventually pick up an OWB and the Mag holders.

    All the best your way!
