DC, registered ammo???
A Delaware man was arrested Wednesday near the White House after a Secret Service officer noticed shotgun shells on the passenger seat of his car, officials said.
The driver approached a checkpoint at an intersection near Lafayette Park, just north of the White House, when the officer noticed the ammunition, said Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan.
Donovan identified the man asAndrew Martin, 20, of Delaware. He did not know in what city Martin lives.
Martin was detained while police dogs and a bomb squad checked his car for explosives, Donovan said.
Several firetrucks, police cars and other emergency vehicles reported to the area after he was taken into custody. The car was found to be safe about two hours later, Donovan said.
Officers from the Secret Service's uniformed division, which is charged with protecting the White House Complex, arrested Martin on suspicion of possession of unregistered ammunition and having an unregistered vehicle, Donovan said.

Re: DC, registered ammo???
I'm guessing it's just sloppy reporting that's getting repeated. The story is an AP story that's getting repeated various places. CNN list him as being charged with unauthorized posession of a firearm and they don't list the AP as the source.
I think CNN got it right and the AP error of 'registered ammo' is just being echoed with no one bothering to check it.

Re: DC, registered ammo???
I am that guy who was arrested...I would greatly appreciate any kind of legal information you guys could provide. The story which says I unlawfully possessed AMMUNITION (I.E. Shotgun shells) is the true one. (My shotgun was left at home, and I only keep the ammo in my car because my apartment is too small to keep the ammunition safely inside - so I keep it LOCKED UP in my car. The internet says safety dictates that I keep them stored separately.) If you guys help me out I might tell you the whole true story later on when I am out of this mess.
So far, I can't see how:
1. I could register ammo even if it DOES in fact need to be registered.
2. This is illegal - ie possessing ammo unlawfully.
3. This is constitutional.
PLEASE DISCUSS

PS. Or even just a "keep-on rocking" or a "good luck" would be much appreciated.

Re: DC, registered ammo???
There are some very knowledgeable people on here. Hopefully they will be able to help you soon. I don't know anything about DC gun laws as I just steer clear of the whole place, but good luck.

Re: DC, registered ammo???
I'll try to find more info but this is not the first time I have read of "registered ammo" violations in D.C. The first time I read about it, was when a war vet on the way to Walter Reed got charged for the same offense.
The way I understand it is you are allowed to possess ammunition for any caliber firearm that you are registered to own in D.C.
More on this original story... read more about the perception from his local paper and people who actually know him.

Re: DC, registered ammo???
Ummm, Good Luck. Sad day indeed when a average joe can't just drive into the Whitehouse with a rifle and ammo.
I suspect Big Oil is somehow behind this:
"He announced to church members two weeks ago that he planned to go to Washington to speak with Obama about an energy-saving project he has been developing, Winder said.
"He's been working on the project for a long time. He said 'I believe I can save this country some energy,'"
