I've been open carrying for the last week...
I still have a few weeks until I'm old enough to get my LTCF. So, I decided to exercise my right to open carry...
I've had more than a dozen people ask about my pistol. When they ask, I tell them that I'm lawfully exercising my 2A rights and my PA right to open carry. I've also been giving out the "Your Pennsylvania Gun Rights ~Handy flyer about carry".
Most of the people who ask seem very open to the idea.
I've had people who say "I wish I could do that" from New York and New Jersey.
I've had some foreigners ask about it (British, Australian, German, also some Eastern Europeans), for the most part they seemed fine with it... Surprised though.
I've also had a few retired police officers ask about it, they were all very pro-gun, and they had no problem with me carrying a gun.
It's definitely been an interesting experience.Last edited by MEH; August 28th, 2009 at 09:13 AM.

Re: I've been open carrying for the last week...
You know the law as it relates to firearms & vehicles......right?? We don't want to see anyone get jammed up.
On your 21st birthday apply for the license.
In the meantime....be careful.

Very nicely done!
Thanks for posting this and for your work as a 2A ambassador! I hope your experiences continue to go this well.
So far, all my experiences have been positive (knock on wood!) and I have handed out many flyers as well.
Maybe some of our attempts at 'normalizing' are taking root? While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: I've been open carrying for the last week...
I don't believe I ever thought about it before, but concerning non-PA residents, from Joisey, NY or even Eastern Europeans for that matter... they can legally OC (on foot) as well?
IOW, do you need to be a PA resident to OC in PA?
I would say no, one does not have to be a PA resident. Is that correct?Last edited by HiredGoon; August 28th, 2009 at 09:36 AM.

Re: I've been open carrying for the last week...
You're probably going to have a bad day if you get caught with a handgun in your car at all without a LTCF unless you're on your way to gunshop/gunsmith/range.
EDIT: don't quote me on that. I very well could be wrong and I'm trying to find the exact source of that in the law. I thought you could only transport a handgun in a vehicle without a LTCF to a handful of locations.
EDIT2: I can't find it in the reference library on PAFOA, so I'm probably wrong, but I'm not sure enough to bother deleting this post.Last edited by leeam; August 28th, 2009 at 11:49 AM.
