    Default Bushnell Holosight

What're the opinions on the eotech without the hood - the 'bushnell holosight'?

Thinking about one for a 22lr upper.

    Thumbs up Re: Bushnell Holosight

I have the original Bushnell Holosight on my Super Redhawk .44mag. I love it for hunting and target shooting. I've had it for almost 10 years now. I got it RIGHT before the slightly smaller second generation Holosite came out.

For defense, it's about useless, unless you can anticipate the need for it and get it turned on ahead of time. If you CAN do that, it's pretty wild. I've done it. I didn't have to fire. The poor dude just pissed himself just in time for his girlfriend to open HER door and apologize for the dumb ass that was pounding on the wrong door. Seriously. He pissed himself.

ANyway, The new Holosite says it's "quicker than the hands" but it doesn't say that it turns on automatically, only that it turns off automatically (times out).

For low light conditions, you'll have to adjust the brightness of the crosshairs so that it doesn't overtake the site picture. And the opposite for bright days, you need to increase the brightness so that you can adequately see the crosshairs on bright sunny days.

I find it MUCH easier for target acquisition than the typical red dot scopes.

I also found that once you site it in for you, if someone else is using the gun too, it may not be sighted in for them.

I am VERY happy with this set up on my Ruger. However, it's not perfect.

After reading the thread after this one, HIS choice seems like it might be better, given what I DON'T like about the Holosite...

That is a great price. I just paid 199.99 + 6% for mine. Man that Fast Fire is a little thing. I like it.

I'm seriously considering this Bushnell "ACOG clone". I've heard nothing but fantastic things about it.

leave it on all the time.

i do that with the EOTech on my AR. have to replace the batteries every couple months, but no biggie.

now the EOTech (and, thus, prolly the bushnell) has this annoying "feature" where it turns itself off after 8 hours of not being adjusted, but you can just adjust the brightness once every 8 hours and then it doesn't turn off.

I ended up getting an eotech 517:

it's like the 512 in that it take AA's (1100 hours from a pair of lithium), but it's raised 7mm and has the buttons moved to the side.

I am looking at getting an Eotech and just saw these 516/517 models. How do you like it?

Hey back to the original topic regarding the Bushnell Holosight . . . can the EOTech 3x magnifier be used with it?
