New to PHL, new to PAFOA, and some Q's...
Hi guys!
I found this site and figured I would join it, as I am now a Pennsylvanian, and a firearms owner. I grew up for a few years in high school in Downingtown (Go Whippets!), and moved away to Missouri, then on to CT, and now I live in Manayunk in Philly.
I've been shooting since college. Primarily, I shoot handgun. I am carrying here on a FL permit, and have gotten all my paperwork together for my PA license. (PHL makes it hard...I have to go in for an interview and all this other craziness.) I usually carry a Beretta 950 in .25. It's not a man-stopper, but I cannot be seen carrying at work, so it works for now. When I am not on the job, I pack a Springer Mil-Spec, Ruger Security Six (2" barrel), Taurus PT-92, or, on occasion, a Taurus PT-22.
Are we a duty-to-inform state? How friendly are the PHL cops to one who they discover is packing on a traffic stop? I also understand there is no legality preventing drinking and CCWing?
Most importantly, I've started hunting. I've been up to SGL 43 in Warwick, and gotten a whole bunch of nothing. I'm going to try SGL 234 in about two weeks. I'm after squirrel (I have a cool little squirrel rig I put together - a single-shot Savage, and an old single shot Stevens shotgun.) I'm needing some advice on where to go, and I'd love a partner - I don't know many hunters here in the city. Anyone have any land they'd let me hunt on? I promise to take good care of it...
Liam
Anywho, nice to know you all are here!

Welcome back to PA! Very pleased to have you.
No. Although you might get a cop that says we are.

Download this and read it:

Probably would help to read the stickies in the Concealed and Open Carry Forum and the two subforums (CC and OC). Also there are stickies in the General forum.
I'm not saying, "You should have read the stickies Jerk!" LOL. It's just obvious that you are unclear on several issues and reading through them would be a great place to start.

Sorry. Reading as we speak.
Just clarifying rules from some of you who may have a little more time under their belts.
Thank you!

philly cops are generally pretty bad, regarding carrying.
there's the domelights fiasco, where (before the racism case) they threatened several members here that they'd 'put two in your melon and then check to see if you have a ltcf.'
the process for obtaining a ltcf in philly seems to differ drastically from the rest of the state (and goes through the philly police), and seems designed to intimidate/discourage applying/approvals.
and i live just a few blocks up from you, i guess (i'm in rox).
although, i don't hunt... and like squirrels. haha.

Welcome to the Forum. The past year has been eye opening. Everyday I learn new things and it is helping me to become a more responsible gun owner. Just curious if you are a fan of Gov't Mule or if it has another meaning. I lived in Mississippi and loved Gov't Mule and D Trucks.

Welcome to PA and Pafoa!!
You'll find that CC is not a problem with your LRCF almost anywhere (unless it is illegal to do so..i.e courtrooms, school campuses, etc).
However, it is true, you will find that MANY Philly cops do not know the law as pertaining to OC and that many of them will give you trouble. I've interviewed several Philly cops and about 85% of them are under the impression that OC is completely illegal (ANYwhere in PA) so just be mindful of it.
Good Luck! and WELCOME again!

Welcome to PA and also this great forum. Enjoy your time here and keep an open mind to all the information you can find here. As for carrying in Philly, let common sense and your level of comfort dictate which form of carry (oc/cc) you decide on. You will hear many "gloom and doom" comments about the Philly leo's so use your own judgement. From my own personal experiances in the past year and a half I have cc'ed and oc'ed in the far NE
(8th district) and in the Bridesburg section and have not had a single bad experiance with them. The only time any of them even said anything was just to ask what I was carrying and how I liked it.
so once again welcome, sit back and enjoy!

Welcome! I'm a relative noob myself, and can't wait to be a somewhat-close neighbor up in Bucks County in about a week or so.
Just FYI, hunting is illegal on Sundays in PA...
