    Default CC in VA

Is anyone familiar with the regs on CC in VA? I can only find that restaurants are off limits ... I think. And of course, I have to travel through MD on the way, what are the particulars there? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    I am.

As you hopefully already know, MD is a communist police state, meaning private citizens are almost completely barred from any form of carry in public. So as you pass through, I suggest you adhere to FOPA guidelines.

VA is an open carry state (no permit/license required if you are otherwise lawful). If you have your PA LTCF, you are cleared to carry concealed, of course.

You are partially correct--concealed carry is disallowed in establishments that serve alcohol for on-site consumption. You can open carry in such places, though.

Other than that, you are pretty much clear. If you are planning on going to any federal property, detention facilities, K-12 places, private property where the owner forbids carry, state parks, places of worship, etc., or Virginia Commonwealth University, then you may not be so free and clear. I'll assume that you aren't for now.

You gotta wonder what sense that makes. Either ban guns in bars or permit them.

That's reminds me, in the town where I went to college in Indiana, there was a combination gun shop/bar. Wonder if it still there.

Do you mean that signs on businesses prohibiting firearms mean something in VA?

I carried in VA for a few days last summer. I was in Richmond most of the time, CC for a convention I was at, and OC outside the convention, although I was with a bunch of fellow convention goers. That included several ale houses and restaurants where I OCd because of the laws. The only person who gave me any grief was a guy local to me, and who knows me very well. Everyone else, even the New Jersey guys I hung out with were fine with it.

But hey, at least it doesn't apply to attorneys and their assistants.

Yes, according to the law, the signs do have meaning here. They're abundant in lib-city Charlottesville.

Went there last summer as well for a long weekend. Did you hit up the Irish Pub? Or the other one that has 1000s of beers available?

Thanks for the advice. Just going to see a friend, not business related. Thanks to all who posted thus far and those who offer more, I do appreciate your input.

When I was working down there, the signs DID have meaning.
