    Default Safe In Basement

Title says it all. Concrete floor covered by carpet. Never seen water in 9 years. Non heated so 55-70 year round. Do I need something under my safe in case of trapped moisture or is that overkill? Someone told me cork is a good barrier? Do I need it?

Personally I would at least put some type of vapor barrier under it. Cork sounds iffy. it's a sponge.
You should still anchor that bastard down.....somehow.

    How's the humidity?
Let's not forget there are still species of tropical penguins living in the Galapagos.

What God's Country said above. I've had my safe in the basement in the past. I've even had open storage racks in the basement. Get a Golden Rod, or similar dehumidifier, for in the safe. In the summer months it's a good idea to run a full size dehumidifier. Just because you don't notice the moisture doesn't mean it isn't there.

Any type of barrier between steel and concrete is a good idea. Concrete does have some characteristics that can speed the corrosion of steel so even a simple sheet of plastic is better than direct contact. I sealed my floor with concrete paint and have a rubber mat under the safe.

I have a dehumidifier running so anywhere from 25%-45% depending on season. I will be using a Goldenrod 18" as well.

I understand, it's just finding that barrier material. I know the carpet has to have a backing for sure but not sure if that is adequate.

Hmm, now would that make it worse by trapping moisture? What about just tyvek or roofing felt, seems logical?

When I had mine in the basement, I put the safe on 4" solid blocks and a piece of shower pan liner.
