Obama’s new executive order will kill the 110-year-old Civilian Marksmanship Program
The White House announced on Thursday that it intends to “ban almost all re-imports of military surplus firearms to private entities” through executive order, which would effectively shut down the 110-year-old Civilian Marksmanship Program.
In a Fact Sheet published on Whitehouse.gov today referencing the upcoming executive order the ban on importing military weapons is designed to “keep military-grade firearms off our streets.” Exceptions for import may be allowed for museums.
The CMP tightly controls the importation of obsolete military weapons. The program was created by the U.S. Congress as part of the 1903 War Department Appropriations Act with the purpose of allowing civilians to hone their marksmanship skills, should they later be called into military service.

I don't think this is true...
The CMP does not "Import" garands or carbines, unless I am mistaken all that they are permitted to do is receive firearms from the US gov't and sell them to civilians.
In any case FBHO and anyone ESPECIALLY GUN OWNERS who voted for him.

Has there been even a single crime committed with one?
He bans them, yet the NBPP member who is a felon with a gun gets off scot free.
New Black Panther leader’s gun charges dropped
It is illegal in Georgia for a convicted felon to have a gun, and Nzinga, 49, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and arrested on March 26.
Last week, DeKalb County prosecutors dismissed the charge.

You would think there are millions of garands and M1s in the country already. Why import? On the one hand Obama is grandstanding and on the other we are panicking.

Re: Obama’s new executive order will kill the 110-year-old Civilian Marksmanship Prog
Seems like a completely pointless EO. The CMP currently has another 1-2 year supply of Garands (assuming this doesn't cause yet another panic-buy situation) and they never planned on getting more. Nor did they ever plan to sell M14s or ARs.
The idea as they tell it is to sell ammo and continue to support the shooting sports once the current rifle supply is gone. Besides, all accounts say the Korean Garands are trash anyway and as it was pointed out, there are a helluva lot of Garands already in civilian hands. This EO likely won't change a thing.
