    Question purchase question

Hi Everyone - 1st post here....

Have a question about purchasing a gun at the Valley Forge Gun Show next weekend. I've read the gun rules, but as usual, they are as clear as mud. I'm hoping for some advice from you more experienced guys.

    Here's my situation:

Just moved from Maryland (still have MD drivers liscence)
    Currently living in NJ

I would like to purchase some cheap 9mm ammo and possibly a .22 handgun at the V.F. Gun show.

    1. Will I be able to purchase at all being that I have an out of state liscense?
    2. IF #1 is yes, should I hold off on changing my ID over to NJ until after the purchase?

    Thanks everyone.

I have never been asked for ID when buying ammo, so you should be OK there.

As for the handgun, there is no way you will be able to buy one at the show and leave with it, even if you had a NJ license.

I am not familiar with NJ regs, but I am certain that you will need to go through a Jersey FFL to obtain a gun there.

Get your license changed, explaining to a cop that you never got around to changing your license can make for an interesting satiation depending on the circumstances.

Ammo should be no problem. Be careful with hollow point ammo in NJ.

With a valid NJ Firearms ID card & a NJ drivers license,a NJ resident can buy a long gun in PA so long as that gun is legal in NJ. For example AKs,FALs,M1carbines are covered by NJ's assault weapon law & are NOT LEGAL to have there. Some dealers won't want to do this as they may not want to get involved with NJ law.

Moving from MD to NJ... going from bad to worse... in terms of firearms rights anyway

You would not be able to buy a handgun at the show. Unless you find a dealer who will sell it to you but ship it to an FFL dealer in jersey and the dealer will then have to do the transfer.

Another question for you. Do you have your NJ weapond card? I'm 95% sure you must have that to make a purchase.

    ... tell me about it.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I'll just be sticking with the ammo purchase for now, and focus later on getting my NJ FID.

    Legally, no.
It would have to be done through a NY FFL.

Sure, you could do it - just not legally. You can't buy a handgun out of state unless you take delivery from an FFL in the state you reside in.
